Wow! What a shocking surprise to find Avery in the Memory section of our class site. Doesn't anyone have information on when, where, how, we lost him; something on maybe his family (wife, children?, etc). He was such a handsome young man and wonderful person and friend. He will be greatly missed by many.
I'm still looking for information on Avery. I do know through my various genealogy resources that Avery died on 1 November 1984. I do not know where or how. If anyone can remember his older brother's name or knows where he or any other family member might be, let me know.
The last time I saw him he was processing me for induction into the military in 1973. He was an Army specialist working out of the Military Processing Center in Portland. We both got a good laugh out of that.
I ran into Avery at Ft. Leonard Wood in 1970 while going thru training. I believe Dan Cross told me he was stationed there . I looked him up and we went to a few movies. I believe he had just got married. I believe his brother was David Olmstead. He went to Brewer a couple of years ahead of us. Avery had decided to stay in the Army, and I believe he was living in Portland at the time of his death.
Avery was my best friend in high school. We did so much together. When my wife and I were first married he stopped by to say hi during a Christmas visit. He has a brother named David and a sister named Katherine (not sure of the spelling). He was married and had a son.
